📰 News we're reading

• City funded unlivable homes, new path presented to get them back to homeownership (wjla.com) — Families pushed out of unsafe River East at Grandview condos on Talbert Street may finally see relief, as D.C. Councilmembers back grants to help them recoup losses and buy new homes. The measure, framed as the last round of assistance, follows years of pressure from Washington residents who bought through city programs and saw their properties become unlivable.

• Experts predict a below-average hurricane season… What does that mean? (dcnewsnow.com) — From Washington, NOAA meteorologists say this year's Atlantic hurricane season should be slightly below average, thanks largely to El Niño, but warn that a single storm can still be devastating. With hurricane season starting June 1, they urge D.C.-area residents to firm up emergency plans now rather than relax because of the lower storm count forecast.
